Description
The popular Herpstat 4 thermostat / temperature controller comes with four temperature probes and is ready to go to work right out of the box.
The Herpstat 4 allows you to control up to four heating, cooling, humidity, or lighting devices at once--each with its own grounded outlet and premium steel tip probe. We love the gentle startup feature to keep heat elements from burning out prematurely, and the built-in alarms that sound off in the event of temperature extremes.
Features:
- Spyder Robotics has added the much requested grounded outlets to this device as well as an auto dimming control for the lcd which will flash the lcd backlighting along with the audible warning if an error exists.
- They've also added a mechanical relay that can be enabled to cut the power circuit to all four outlets in case a solid state component fails.
- Humidity control is built into this device, which can be as simple as timed misting sessions or full humidity control with the optional humidity sensor.
- Pulse proportional mode. Now you can select either pulse or dimming mode for heating. Pulse is used for metal rack systems to eliminate the audible hum that sometimes occurs.
-
Basking Assist mode. This feature allows the use of basking lights as a heating device and helps prevent the lights from cycling on/off at the target temp.
More about Herpstat 4:
- 400 Watt rating for each output (1600 watts total output), sufficient for most incubators, rack systems, enclosures, and vivariums.
- Four grounded outlets capable of true proportional heating.
- Constantly monitors and adjusts amount of heat necessary to maintain a target temperature and enclosure efficiency (usable range from 40°F to 150°F or 4°C to 65°C). Can also be used in non-proportional (on / off) mode.
- Outputs 1 & 2 configurable for Heating/Cooling/Lighting. Outputs 3 & 4 can be configured for Heating/Cooling/Humidity/Lighting with simulated sunrise/sunset and moonlight features.
- User selectable temperature and light ramping allows day to night changes to occur slowly. (Up to 10 hours)
- Soft startup slowly applies power during initial warmups.
- Silent fanless design.
- Easy to read backlit LCD display. Removable sensors allow for easy replacement if necessary. Display and setting in tenths of a degree.
- Sensor Matching allows the user to digitally calibrate the sensor output to match other equipment.
- Individually selectable High / Low temperature threshold alarms.
- Precision sensors with internal resolution of .1125 °F and is accurate to ± .9 °F
- Temperature can be set / displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
- Night Drop feature built in with real time clock allows individual night drop settings for each output.
- Resettable fuses never require replacement.
- Each output is fused separately keeping an outage on one output from affecting the other.
- Audible alarm system.
- Security Passcode option deters vandals.
- Power Outage detection / tracking. All settings are retained in memory even if power is lost.
- Safety Relay can disconnect power to all four outlets if an error exists.
- Internal error detection shuts off heat if sensor fails or is disconnected.
- Internal temperature sensor monitors heat and controls internal fan. Also shuts down outputs if overheated for safety. Restarts automatically once cooled.
- Includes four probes and removable power cord.
- Herpstat 4 dimensions: 8.2" wide x 2.2" tall x 6.25" deep (additional space required for cords exiting the back).
- The 12-foot steel tipped probes are epoxy sealed to increase water resistance. The steel tip also transfers temperature change faster which can be beneficial in setups where the probe is monitoring air temp like incubators.
- 1-year limited warranty.
Herpstats are best-in-class reptile thermostat devices preferred by professional reptile keepers, breeder, and hobbyists for temperature precision. All Herpstat units are proportional thermostats with selectable pulse or dimming modes allowing for advanced temperature ramping to gradually increase/decrease heat over a set period of time. Can also be used in non-proportional (on / off) mode.
About Pulse Proportional Thermostats
These are more accurate and consistent than on/off units. Pulse proportional thermostats provide precise temperature regulation and efficient power usage, because they continuously take temperature readings in the vivarium and send pulses of energy to your heater that guide the vivarium temperature to your ideal level.
Since they avoid abrupt on/off cycles and provide precise control over the heat output, pulse proportional thermostats are the least likely to cause thermal stress on connected bulbs, making them suitable for heat lamps and basking bulbs, long strips of heat tape, UTHs, and heat emitters, in addition to most heating devices on the market.
Because pulse proportional thermostats are the most sophisticated, they are often more expensive than other types of thermostats. However, the cost will even out over time due to savings from replacing bulbs less often--plus, with many of the highly-coveted Herpstat thermostats, you can control multiple devices or vivariums simultaneously as most have multiple outlets and probes. Zoos, reptile breeders, and hobbyists with large snake collections especially love the features and precision that come with Herpstat temperature controllers.
Other updates from Spyder Robotics include: New circuit board design with high efficiency heatsinks and silent fanless operation. Removed non-proportional heating mode as it's unnecessary now that the unit supports pulse proportional mode. Resettable fuses were replaced with standard replaceable 5x20mm 3.5 amp fast acting fuses. The top of the enclosure must be removed to insert a replacement fuse which easily snaps into a holder. This fuse type does a better job of protecting the circuit board during short circuit situations. The menu’s are identical to the original Herpstat 4 except for the added features so anyone already familiar with the original Herpstat 4 will have no problems transitioning to a V2. The unit’s appearance is also identical from the front. The rear of the version 2 unit has additional vents and lack of fan which makes it easy to identify. Also the startup screen will display PCB 2.0. Box labels were updated as well. Spyder Robotics added a soft startup feature to slowly add power on initial starts as well as a user selectable ramping between day and night time temperature settings as well as light ramping. A new revolutionary auto power matching algorithm constantly adjusts the power output to get the best regulation possible. New AC control code that lets the device dim power in 100 steps to be able to finely tune the heating equipment. High and low temperature tracking now also records the time and day of the event. There are many features to this device and the menu system makes it easy to set. Scroll down to check out the manual for screen shots of the setup procedure.
